Since the early 2000’s Connected Learning has emerged as a promising practice to enhance and expand the provision of quality higher education opportunities for displaced populations. Connected Learning in higher education in displaced and fragile contexts can be defined briefly as the development and exchange of knowledge and ideas among student, faculty, and humanitarian actors through the use of information technology to enable learning not bound by geographical limitations in contexts of fragility.
The inaugural Playbook , produced by the CLCC in 2017 was a static document developed to help strengthen the delivery of Connected Learning programmes by sharing knowledge and practical experiences of current initiatives. Throughout the Playbook, case studies were presented and mapped to the four distinct quality guidelines.
These guidelines were created by the Connected Learning in Crisis Consortium (CLCC) with the aim of advancing future implementation and programme designs. The quality guidelines are not intended to restrict approaches, but rather allow practitioners to learn from prior experiences, collective lessons, and common trends that have emerged across programmatic designs spanning initiatives deployed in Asia, Africa, Europe and the MENA region.
The static playbook has since evolved into the CLCC Digital Playbook, a dynamic and interactive digital playbook comprised of stories, case studies, and testimonials mapped to the four quality guidelines in connected learning in emergency settings. The Consortium and the Digital Playbook act as a platform to support the provision of quality digital higher education in contexts of crisis and displacement by sharing and disseminating knowledge, experience and evidence; developing innovative and good practice; and ensuring accountability to students and their communities.
As the CLCC, we hope that you will find the Digital Playbook a useful introduction and guide to the landscape of rich experiences that have emerged within this field. We highly encourage you to engage the Consortium and Digital Playbook and share your experiences and knowledge via stories, case studies, and testimonials to assist in advancing this emerging field and to contribute your voice and experience.
